Killarney Plastics

Tricel Beginnings as Killarney Plastics

Tricel was formerly known as Killarney Plastics and was originally formed in February 1973. The initial focus of the company was the manufacturer of durable composite and GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) resin products of very high-quality standards.  Over time the enterprise grew in both size and success and along with this came invaluable experience and industry insight which embedded the company with a specialized and highly technical skill set required for producing products from this innovative material.

The company founders were Anne and Con Stack Snr. Ever since its founding the company has remained a fully Irish owned and family run business. It is this very family-style dynamic that has been ingrained in the company with its friendly and positive atmosphere. This element has helped the development of the company and been a core value throughout the expansion process, from its beginnings as a singular specialist production element, to what is today a multifaceted organisation that operates on a global stage.

Early Sucess

The company’s early business success saw an expansion of the original premises and many additions to the product production portfolio. There were many new additional products including meter box enclosures and water storage tanks. The group quickly began to develop and apply new and unique manufacturing methods based on hard-earned knowledge and skills brought about by industry experience. The application of hard-earned and innovative manufacturing and design techniques earned through experience quickly ensured the company’s position as a manufacturer of extremely high-quality products. This rapidly pushed Killarney Plastics to the forefront of the industry.

As the company moved firmly into the area of water storage tank and meter box production they quickly began to further expand the share of the market segment expanded due to continuous success. This was then followed by an expansion into the UK and wider European markets through sales and export. From this new position, the company’s reputation for innovation, technical ability, and highly dependable products grew. New market development strategies saw the group successfully expand their presence throughout these regions and receive valuable utility contracts in both Ireland and the UK.

Expansion & Consolidation

As the company expanded so did the different market segments in which it operated. In 1998, it was decided to consolidate these elements under one company brand name, and that name was KMG (Killarney Manufacturing Group). As time progressed this expansion continued and so did the company’s operational elements. This growth soon saw the concern expand its product offerings in the Environmental sector with a primary focus on the wastewater treatment segment. KMG soon became the leading GRP water tank manufacturer in Europe, with sales in Africa and Asia.

Under the banner of KMG, the business continued its positive expansion strategy and was soon operating in multiple regions throughout Europe such as the UK, France, and Germany. This model of expansion continually grew the enterprise’s position. Following on the success in establishing operations in both Germany and France, the group decided to re-brand using the name of the product which had helped them to achieve this position. And so it was, that in early 2014 KMG, headed by its founding company Killarney Plastics, officially became known by the name it is known by today, Tricel.
