Planning and property sales bring their own checks.<\/p><h3>The EPA 2021 Code of Practice<\/h3><p>Domestic wastewater treatment systems up to 10\u00a0PE are designed, sited, installed, operated and maintained in line with the EPA\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.ie\/publications\/compliance--enforcement\/waste-water\/2021-code-of-practice-for-domestic-waste-water-treatment-systems.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021 Code of Practice for Domestic Waste Water Treatment Systems<\/a>. It applies to site assessments and installations carried out on or after 7\u00a0June\u00a02021; the earlier 2009 Code may be used only where the site assessment or installation began, or planning was applied for, before that date. It sets out how a site is assessed \u2014 including the percolation (site suitability) test \u2014 and the standards a system must meet. Grant-funded works must also follow the 2021 Code.<\/p><p>The Code is a framework for assessing whether a site can safely receive, treat and discharge domestic wastewater \u2014 not a product catalogue. The correct sequence is therefore site assessment first, then the regulatory route, then design, then product selection, then installation and maintenance.
