Tricel MTU Engineering Awards 2023: Celebrating Pioneers in Innovation

Tricel is proud to announce the distinguished winners of the 2023 Tricel MTU Engineering Awards. This year’s competition attracted many exceptional submissions from engineers studying Engineering at MTU, all showcasing the pinnacle of innovation in the engineering field.

First Place: Christopher Flynn

Christopher Flynn’s project stood out as a beacon of ingenuity, earning him the top spot in this year’s awards. Christopher’s innovation demonstrates not only his profound understanding of engineering principles but also his ability to think outside the box, adapting his knowledge to solve real-world challenges. The panel was impressed by the depth of research, the practical application, and the potential for significant impact in the industry.

Christopher’s project involved programming a microcontroller to interface with a robotic arm that could be controlled using a mobile phone app. The robot interface program was directly coded onto the microcontroller which then communicated with the robotic arm through Bluetooth signals.

Runner Up: Kacper Milolajck

Kacper Milolajck’s submission was remarkable, securing him the runner-up position. Kacper’s approach was holistic, blending technical acumen with creativity, resulting in a project that has the potential to revolutionise current industry standards. His passion for engineering and commitment to pushing the boundaries was evident in every facet of his work.

 

His project consisted of conducting a comprehensive design review of a product known as GAME support. This device has been developed to assist persons with disabilities so that they can enjoy many aspects associated with golf and similar sports. Kacper’s skills in Computer Aided Design, his research and knowledge of design optimisation and his overall positive attitude will help GAME support get to those who can benefit most from a well-designed product.

 

Tricel MTU Engineering Awards aims to recognise and encourage innovative thinkers like Christopher and Kacper, who, through their dedication and brilliance, drive the engineering field forward.

 

Mike Stack said: “I am delighted to present Chris and Kacper with the Tricel MTU Award for the best manufacturing engineering project. This award recognises the achievements and honours their innovation, dedication, and pursuit of excellence. Engineers are often described as the unsung heroes of our modern age. They dream of the impossible and then roll up their sleeves to turn that dream into a reality. As a family-owned company, Tricel is committed to innovation and sustainability. The students we recognise have showcased not just skill but imagination, seeing beyond the present. Engineering is more than just equations; it’s about improving lives and ensuring progress benefits all. This award doesn’t just commend their academic and technical brilliance but also the potential to shape the ever-evolving field of engineering”. Mike also thanked their professors, mentors Patrick Stack and Chris O’Donoghue, and family members who guided, supported, and believed in each one of these individuals. He said, “behind every successful engineer is a story of encouragement, sacrifice, and unwavering faith”.
