THE CHALLENGE

The current system was unable to meet the effluent standards set out by the local authority. A tailored solution was required to work with the existing concrete SBR (Sequencing Batch Reactors) system and meet these standards. SBR use activated sludge to fill and draw.

An SBR process is a form of activated sludge treatment in which aeration, settlement and decanting can occur in a single reactor. The process employs a five-stage cycle: fill, react, settle, empty and rest. As the SBR system provides batch treatment of wastewater, it can accommodate wide variations of flow rates which can be related to hotel type applications

Wastewater is added to a single batch reactor, treated to remove undesirable components, and then discharged. 2021 Code of practice (page 57).

The Installation

As a means of complying with the effluent standards set by the local authority, Tricel proposed two series of Mars 6000, which would be installed after the SBR plant and serve as a type of tertiary treatment,

Using pumps installed by our service engineers in the existing SBR clarifier, secondary treated effluent gets pumped into the Mars treatment system for further treatment. The effluent received gets passed through two zones of aeration and two zones of clarifiers before getting discharged, ensuring the quality of the wastewater is greatly increased.

As part of the local authority’s parameters, phosphorus reduction was also required on site. The Mars plants controller was installed with a PAX dosing pump solution to reduce the overall phosphorus levels. The chemical poly aluminium chloride is used to reduce phosphorus levels.

Finally, the customer also installed a sand polishing filter for extra treatment before discharging to the ground.

Local builders installed the system, and Tricel fitted pumps and commissioned Mars treatment plants.

TRICEL SOLUTION

Tricel Maxus wastewater treatment is suitable for both seasonal and constant loads. The control panel automatically adjusts as incoming loads increase to ensure optimal performance.

Sewage treatment for hotels should handle highly variable wastewater flows and loads. From season to season, demand fluctuates considerably. Overloading at peak times will increase BOD, Ammonia and suspended solids, which can cause compliance issues. We manage this in our wastewater treatment plants by controlling and equalising peak flows.

The Mars 6000 series is needed to handle a busy business in peak seasons while being 100% functional and easy to use and maintain.

Equipment supplied:

  • 2 x Tricel Maxus Mars 6000
  • Inlet piping and pumps – PAX dosing pump solution

The Feedback

The customer was happy with the solution.

Several wastewater treatment solutions are available from Tricel, including the Tricel Maxus Wastewater Treatment, designed to treat wastewater from small communities and commercial properties more significant than 50 PE.

With multiple configurations that fit any site, these products are robust, easy to install, and simple to operate; they are also easy to maintain over time. Sewage Treatment for hotels can be treated and disposed of using our Tricel Maxus commercial wastewater treatment systems.
