What is it?

The Biocycle aerobic wastewater treatment system is a self-contained sewage and water treatment solution designed for areas without a centralised sewerage system access. This system utilises natural biological processes to efficiently purify all incoming wastewater discharged through garden irrigation.

A residential Biocycle system typically consists of a single tank, approximately 2.5 metres deep and wide. The tank is internally divided into compartments of varying sizes, each serving a specific function in the treatment process.

Wastewater and effluent from the household enter the Biocycle tank through a single inlet point, facilitated by gravity flow. The water then progresses through the system’s chambers via displacement. As untreated water enters one chamber, treated water flows out through an outlet into the subsequent chamber, where the water level is slightly lower.

By employing this sequential displacement method, the Biocycle system ensures the progressive treatment of wastewater, allowing for the efficient removal of contaminants and producing purified water ready for irrigation purposes.

How does it work?

The Tricel biocycle alternative, also known as the Tricel Novo, operates through a three-step process to effectively treat wastewater:

Stage 1: Primary Settlement Chamber

In the initial stage of the wastewater treatment process, the Tricel system separates the grease and solid particles from the water. Grease accumulates on the surface, while heavier solids settle at the bottom of the tank.

Stage 2: Aeration Chamber

The second compartment of the Tricel Biocycle version involves aerobic breakdown. Specially designed filter media provide a habitat for naturally occurring bacteria. These aerobic bacteria play a crucial role in digesting and breaking down pollutants present in wastewater. To sustain these bacteria, a dedicated compressor located in the top section of the system continuously supplies air to the chamber.

Stage 3: Final Settlement Chamber

During the third stage of wastewater treatment, the liquid containing suspended sludge and bacteria flows into the settlement chamber. The suspended sludge settles within this chamber at the bottom while the treated liquid remains above. A continuous sludge return system then sucks the settled sludge back to the primary settlement chamber for further treatment. The treated liquid that remains in the settlement chamber meets the required standards and can be safely discharged from the Tricel system.

Installing a Tricel sewage treatment plant

Things to check when installing a sewage treatment plant:

To ensure that your Tricel system is ready for use, please follow these steps:

Installation and Water Filling

  • Make sure that the system is correctly installed in the designated location.
  • Fill each compartment of the system with water gradually, except for the Pumpout Chamber, which should be left empty.

Proper Connection to Household Drainage

  • Ensure that your household drainage system is correctly connected to the system inlet. This will enable the flow of wastewater into the sewage treatment system.

Electricity and Alarm Panel

  • Connect the system to a reliable electricity source.
  • Install the alarm panel to provide meaningful notifications and alerts regarding the system’s operation.

Full Commissioning of the System

  • Ensure all essential components are installed and connected, including the water pump, air blower, and percolation system.
  • If you have any concerns about the installation and connection process, don’t hesitate to contact us !

Preparation of the Percolation Area

  • Prepare the designated irrigation area by ensuring suitable landscaping.
  • It is essential to have some form of vegetation or ground cover in place, as irrigating barren dirt is not recommended.
  • Additionally, check if your local Council has any specific requirements or regulations related to landscaping and irrigation.

Following these guidelines ensures that your Biocycle by Tricel system is ready for optimal functionality and efficient wastewater management.

Tricel Novo

Features

The SMC tank is produced through a compression moulding process that involves high heat and pressure. This manufacturing method results in components that surpass the strength and durability of standard GRP or PE tanks.

In the wastewater treatment industry, SMC stands out as a unique material. Tricel SMC tanks, incorporating this innovation, have demonstrated exceptional performance for over 50 years, even in the most challenging climatic conditions, without any defects.

Tricel’s ceramic diffuser sets a new standard in the domestic wastewater treatment plant market. It outperforms the rubber equivalents offered by other competitors, boasting a lifespan twice as long.

Furthermore, Tricel’s system eliminates the need for concrete backfill during installation on most sites. This feature not only simplifies the installation process but also provides cost savings of up to €400.

How to maintain your sewage treatment ?

Here are some key steps to follow for proper maintenance:

  • Regular Inspections

Conduct routine inspections of the system to check for any signs of damage, leaks, or blockages. Pay attention to the tank, pipes, pumps, and electrical components. If you notice any issues, address them promptly.

  • Maintenance of Components

Maintain and service the components of the Biocycle system as recommended by the manufacturer. This may include servicing the water pump, air blower, irrigation system, and alarm panel. Follow the manufacturer’s guidelines for cleaning and maintenance tasks.

  • Water Quality

Monitor the quality of the treated water leaving the system. Conduct periodic tests to ensure that it meets the required standards for safe disposal or irrigation. If the water quality is not satisfactory, contact a professional for troubleshooting and adjustments.

  • Landscaping and percolation area

Maintain the landscaping in the percolation area. Trim plants, remove weeds, and ensure proper coverage to enhance the efficiency of the irrigation process. Follow any local Council requirements regarding landscaping and irrigation practices.

  • Avoid Chemicals and Harmful Substances

Refrain from introducing chemicals, harsh cleaners, or other harmful substances into the wastewater system. These can disrupt the natural biological processes and hinder the system’s performance.

  • Professional Servicing

Schedule periodic professional servicing and inspections of the Biocycle system. Experts can assess its condition, perform maintenance tasks, and address any underlying issues.
