THE CHALLENGE
During the planning process for this client, issues were identified with the existing onsite wastewater treatment solution. Upon further inspection by Limerick County Council, it was discovered that the effluent treatment system was not performing and there was ponding evident on the existing soil polishing filter.
The Installation
Due to the issues the clients faced with their old effluent treatment system, they decided to upgrade with a Tricel Novo wastewater plant and a Tricel Sandcel (sand filter). This sand polishing filter was suitably designed for these site conditions. Boyce Architectural & Engineering were appointed to the project to specify and design a suitable system to treat and discharge the treated effluent.
TRICEL SOLUTION
Sandcel Polishing filter & Tricel Novo
A sand filter, Sandcel, was selected to polish the effluent from the wastewater treatment system and dispose of the treated liquid into groundwater. Under or overground, the enclosure can be installed at varying heights to suit all site conditions.
The Tricel Novo wastewater treatment plant was installed as it provided a cost-effective, high-quality wastewater treatment solution that ensured compliance with environmental protection regulations.

The Feedback
I was instructed to carry on a full site inspection and assessment. Because of the gley subsoils and the poor assimilation rate of liquid effluent through theses soils I had to propose a design to the environment section of Limerick City & County Council that would have the effluent effectively treated before it reached the gley subsoil’s. This design was approved by the council before the commenced work on the site. The system was installed in two days and was inspected and approved by Limerick County Council after the works were completed.
