THE CHALLENGE

Considering the poor ground conditions and the lack of space, Denis O’Connell (Civil Engineering) recommended the ideal solution that would work in the area – A Tricel Novo wastewater treatment plant with a Sandcel Sand polishing filter.

The Installation

Below are images showing the steps involved in installing the Sandcel Sand Polishing Filter. The sand filter is a tertiary treatment consisting of stratified layers of certified sands in accordance with the EPA Code of Practice.

GRP panels are installed with gravel distribution layers and distribution pipes as a base layer. Effluent is distributed evenly across the entire surface area of the filter media by the pipework within the top pea-gravel layer – the capping is made with gravel.

Afterwards, a geotextile is placed on top. Geotextile is rot-proof, irremovable, and permeable, making it ideal for separating materials that cannot mix while still allowing water to drain.
