tertiary wastewater treatment
Tricel Tero and Sandcel
tertiary wastewater treatment
What’s the purpose of a tertiary wastewater treatment?
Overview
If you are located on an environmentally sensitive site (water table protection areas), you might need to invest in a secondary/tertiary wastewater treatment system in addition to your initial solution. With this extra purification process, you will get higher quality effluents that are now meeting the required standards. While inspecting your soil, the site assessor will be the one deciding if it’s necessary or not for your property.
At Tricel, we have been developing the types of products that could satisfy all your needs. With our packaged filter system and our sand polishing filter, we are putting our savoir-faire at your disposal. They are cost-efficient, long-lasting, and trustworthy. Have a look at the Tero and Sandcel.

The packaged filter system
No matter what your needs are (single-housing or small community purposes), the Tero is adaptable to your home’s requirements. It is the perfect addition for wastewater treatment plants.
The media used in our packaged filter system is Coconut coir. Requiring very little energy, it is the last step in treating your effuent. The Tero requires very low maintenance (no desludging). It is compact (small footprint) and suitable for sensitive sites.
How a Tricel Tero System Works?
Here our Tricel Tero system has been combined with our Tricel Novo wastewater treatment plant. They are both connected via a pump.
After receiving its first treatment inside your wastewater treatment plant, your sewage is pumped into the Tricel Tero. Upon its arrival into the system, it is equally dispersed onto the coconut coir. Once it has reached the standards imposed by the EPA, your effluents should flow into the ground.
Sand polishing filter
Our second tertiary wastewater treatment product, the Sandcel, is composed of layers of sand and pea gravel and made of GRP panels. You can use it below and above the ground, without adding an extra percolation area. The sizing of our sand polishing filter will be defined based on your needs, to suit all site conditions. It can be loaded at 60l/m2 which is limiting your footprint.
How does the Sandcel work?
Like the Tero, the Sandcel collects the effluent upon its exit from the primary sewage treatment system (and primary/ secondary if wastewater treatment plant). It will then be dispersed evenly all over the polishing filter throughout a distribution pipework. Once it has reached its optimum level of treatment and water quality, the treated wastewater will be discharged into the ground.
