Location
Carna
Project Type
Installation of a secondary treatment system
Tricel solution
Tricel Maxus wastewater treatment
Overview
This case study is about the installation of a Tricel Maxus as a secondary treatment system in Carna. They also installed fitted pumps. The purpose of this project was to be able to deal with a busy business.
The challenge
Water table high on-site customer required concrete tanks and customer needed the inlet to be deeper than standard. Tricel had to source good quality suitable tanks.
Our team decided to choose a Carlow concrete.
What’s more, the customer wanted telemetry on the plant so an error message would be sent to alert if an error occurred.
The Tricel Maxus needed to be able to deal with a busy business on peak seasons as well as being 100% functionality and easy to use and maintain also see above.

How did Tricel help?
The Tricel engineers team installed inlet pumps into a 3500-gallon concrete tank that would feed into the Maxus sewage treatment system and installed two pumps into a 1000 gallon concrete tank that would feed to a pressurised bed system that the customer was installing.
The Tricel manager came back to commission the sewage treatment.

HOW DOES THE TRICEL MAXUS WORK?
1. The settlement tank:
Wastewater enters into the Tricel Maxus System in the settlement tank. Here, primary treatment occurs. Heavy solids are separated from the wastewater and settle out to form a sludge on the tank’s base. Lighter solids, such as oil fats, or grease, float to the top of the wastewater and are retained within the settlement tank.
2. The buffer tank:
From here, the partially treated wastewater enters the buffer tank. The buffer tank will even out any fluctuations in the incoming water load. Pumps at the buffer tank’s bottom feed the wastewater into the treatment plant.
3. The biological treatment zone:
In this zone, the submerged aerated filter, with a large surface area for the microbes, is exposed to heavy aeration as the wastewater passes through. The system will never clog and does not need any maintenance or chemicals.
4. The clarifier:
In the clarifier, bio sludge from the treatment process settles out of the treated liquid. Airlift pumps recirculate the bio sludge from the base of the tank back to the settlement tank. The fully treated liquid is now ready to discharge from the plant.
